Terms, safety and liability

fumbleupon · electronics.fumbleupon and every fumbleupon site · last updated 3 November 2026

The short version. This site teaches electronics with simulations and examples. It is for learning only. If you build anything, you do so entirely at your own risk and you are responsible for your own safety, your equipment and the people and property around you. Anyone under 18 must have a responsible adult supervising. Never work on mains (wall) power. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for any damage to boards, components, computers or other property, for any injury, or for any other loss that comes from using this site or acting on anything in it.

The full terms below are what apply. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

“fumbleupon”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the owner and operator of fumbleupon, including electronics.fumbleupon and every other fumbleupon website, subdomain, page, app, lesson, simulation, sketch, image, model and download (together, the “Site”). “You” means anyone who visits or uses the Site, and, where you are under 18, also your parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf.

2. Information for learning only

  1. The Site is general educational information. It is not professional, engineering, electrical, safety or product advice, and it does not take your particular circumstances, skills, parts or equipment into account.
  2. The 3D models, wiring diagrams, simulations, readings, example sketches and explanations are simplified and illustrative. Real parts, boards, modules, kits and versions differ, and they can differ from what the Site shows. Simulations are approximations and may not behave as real hardware does.
  3. Although we take care, the Site may contain errors, omissions or out-of-date material, including in pin assignments, voltages, wiring and code. Before connecting, powering or programming anything, you must check every connection and value against the manufacturer’s own datasheets, instructions and safety warnings for the exact parts you have. Where they differ from the Site, follow the manufacturer.
  4. We may change, suspend or remove any part of the Site at any time without notice.

3. Your safety, your equipment, your responsibility

  1. Electronics carries real risks, including electric shock, burns, fire, explosion or swelling of batteries (especially lithium batteries), heat from soldering irons and components, eye injury from flying leads or clipped wires, small parts that are a choking hazard for young children, and damage to boards, components, computers, USB ports, power supplies and other property. These are obvious and inherent risks of the activity.
  2. Never work on mains (wall) electricity. The Site’s lessons are designed only for low-voltage hobby circuits powered by USB, batteries or a suitable low-voltage supply. Anything involving mains voltage must be done by a licensed electrician.
  3. Anyone under 18 must use the Site, and do any building, only under the supervision of a responsible adult, who is responsible for deciding what is safe for them.
  4. You choose whether, what and how to build, wire, power and program, and you voluntarily accept all risks of doing so. You are solely responsible for using suitable, genuine and undamaged parts, safe tools, protective equipment, a safe workspace and correct wiring, and for disconnecting power before changing a circuit.
  5. Wiring a board wrongly can destroy it, the parts connected to it, or the computer or supply powering it. You accept that risk when you build.

4. No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available”, free of charge, without any warranty, guarantee, condition or representation of any kind, whether express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, reliability, safety, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, or that the Site will be available, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, viruses or harmful components.

5. Exclusion and limitation of liability

  1. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we (and our owners, operators, contributors, partners and suppliers) exclude all liability to you and to anyone else, however it arises, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), equity, under statute or otherwise, for any loss, damage, cost, expense, claim, injury or death arising out of or in connection with the Site, its content, its availability or unavailability, or any action you or anyone else takes or fails to take in reliance on it.
  2. This includes, without limitation: damage to or destruction of boards, modules, components, kits, tools, computers, devices, power supplies, batteries, data or other property; electrical failure, short circuits, fire or smoke; personal injury, illness or death; loss of data, time, opportunity, profit, revenue or goodwill; and any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive loss, even if we were told such loss was possible.
  3. Where the law implies a guarantee, warranty or right that cannot be excluded but whose remedy can be limited, our liability is limited, at our option and to the maximum extent the law allows, to supplying the relevant services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
  4. Where liability cannot be excluded or limited as above, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims connected with the Site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us to use the Site in the twelve months before the claim (which, as the Site is free, is ordinarily nil) and AUD $10.
  5. Your use of the Site is a recreational and educational activity you undertake voluntarily. To the extent permitted by law, including the civil liability legislation of each Australian State and Territory, we are not liable for harm resulting from the materialisation of an obvious or inherent risk of that activity, and we have no duty to warn of obvious risks.

6. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition, implied or imposed by the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), including the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law, that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified. If such a law applies, our liability is limited only to the extent that law allows, and the rest of these terms continue to apply.

7. Your indemnity

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless us and our owners, operators, contributors, partners and suppliers from and against any claim, demand, loss, damage, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal costs) made by any third party or suffered by us, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Site, anything you build, wire, power, program, make, sell or share using it, any person you supervise or allow to use it, or your breach of these terms or of any law.

8. Products, makers and links

  1. We do not make, sell, supply, test or certify any hardware. Boards, modules and kits shown on the Site are modelled on products made by other companies, which are credited on the relevant lessons. Their names and marks belong to their owners. Showing or crediting a product does not mean we are affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by its maker, or that we recommend or warrant it.
  2. Any hardware you buy is bought from its seller on the seller’s terms, and any claim about it is between you and that seller or maker.
  3. Links to other websites are for convenience only. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, safety, privacy practices or availability.

9. Copyright and ownership

© 2026 fumbleupon. All rights reserved. This applies across fumbleupon and every fumbleupon site and subdomain, including electronics.fumbleupon. The Site’s text, lessons, designs, 3D models, illustrations, animations, code, the fumbleupon name, wordmark, mascot and look are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by copyright, trade mark and other laws in Australia and internationally. You may use the Site for your own personal, non-commercial learning, and you may copy the example sketches into your own personal projects. You may not otherwise copy, reproduce, republish, frame, scrape, sell, license or create derivative works from any part of the Site without our written permission. Open-source software and fonts used by the Site remain under their own licences, listed in the open-source licences.

10. Privacy

The Site does not ask you to create an account or give us personal information. Your progress and settings are stored in your own browser on your own device, and you can clear them at any time through your browser. The companies that host and deliver the Site may process technical information (such as IP addresses) under their own policies, in order to deliver and secure it. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits: it uses no cookies, does not identify you, and gives us only totals such as page views and the kinds of devices used.

11. Visitors outside Australia

  1. The Site is operated from Australia. We make no representation that it is appropriate, safe, lawful or available in any other country. If you use it from outside Australia, you do so on your own initiative and you are responsible for complying with your local laws and safety rules.
  2. These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Site (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by the laws in force in Australia, to the exclusion of the laws of any other country and of any conflict-of-laws rules that would apply another country’s law. You irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia and the courts that may hear appeals from them, and you waive any objection to those courts on the ground of venue or inconvenient forum.
  3. If any law of another country nonetheless applies to you, every exclusion and limitation in these terms applies to the maximum extent that law permits, and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

12. General

  1. We may update these terms at any time by publishing a new version on the Site. The version in force when you use the Site applies, so please check this page from time to time.
  2. If any part of these terms is invalid or unenforceable in any place, it is read down or severed to the extent needed there, and the rest continues in full force.
  3. If we don’t enforce a right, we have not waived it. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site.
  4. Headings and the short version at the top are for convenience. Where they differ from the numbered terms, the numbered terms apply.
